“How can I get more clients?”
This is by far the number one question I see in my email, in VA groups and forums, and anywhere else virtual assistants hang out. And I get it. You need clients to keep your business afloat. They’re the ones who pay the bills right? If you don’t have a full roster, or you’ve lost a client or two, you can start to feel pretty stressed.
So it makes sense that you spend a good percentage of your time actively searching for new leads.
The problem is, you’re working way too hard at it. Finding clients is easy, once you stop asking, “Where can I find clients?” and start asking “How can I better serve my market?”If you're still asking how to get clients, you're focusing on the wrong thing. Click To Tweet
How to Get Clients the Easy Way
Upwork? Fiverr? Other job boards? If you’ve tried them, then you know websites like these can quickly turn into a race to the bottom of the pricing curve. If you’re willing to work for low pay just to snag a one-time gig, or you truly need cash right now, then these might work for you. But to build a business, you need a better, long-term plan.
- Blog about your specialty. Every day millions of people turn to Google for answers to their most pressing problems. That client you are searching for is among them. Give her the answer she needs, and she’ll know exactly where to turn when she needs help.
- Be social. Answer questions in Facebook groups and online forums. The more visible (and helpful) you are, the more likely you are to be seen as the expert in your niche.
- Be seen. Get out of your office and attend a conference, MeetUp, business networking event, mastermind group or other live get together. Go to where your ideal client is hanging out so she can put a face to your name. Introduce yourself and what you do.
- Make recommendations. Did you read a great article about list building or watch a video about website design faux pas? Take a minute and send the link to a client or prospect you know could use the info. It’s a little thing that takes two seconds, but it keeps you and your services in mind.
Now, no one will tell you that these strategies will lead to an instant income boost. They won’t. But they will–with time and consistency–yield amazing results.
